i am obsessed. True story. Even when I don't have the money to buy shoes, I still look at them, pin them, and look at everyone's feet just to see what shoes they are wearing. You realize the addiction has peaked about the same time your collection has to be moved to the hall linen closet and the sheets and towels are forced to inhabit a much smaller home far away.... If there was a therapy addiction meeting, it would go something like this: "Hi, my name is Heather. On my honor I have not bought a pair of shoes in like two or three weeks. But holy smokes, have you seen the new ones at DSW?! I had to force myself to close the website, but ... Read More
Pressure
Does anyone else do this?? I feel like the pressure we put on ourselves is often the heaviest load we carry. I know I do it. That's right. I admit it. Today, my sweet friend Bernie reminded me to try a little harder this week to not be so hard on myself. She assured me that I have so much to offer and something big is right around the corner. I don't know why she believes in me so much, but I love her even more for it. As I listened to the lesson today in Relief Society, one specific point leapt out at me...it was not even the main focus of the lesson! But it was exactly what I needed. (That is something I just love about the Holy Ghost. We ... Read More
Garage sale! 10¢ or less! Finding your Worth
Something that has been jogging at full speed through the pathways of my thoughts all week.... WORTH. The world is such a vast place, and it often seems like a constant competition of who looks the most beautiful, who is the funniest, kindest, most popular, most successful, richest, etc. There are so many people trying to win this contest! Even without consciously realizing it, we can get caught up in these worldly measurements and forget something. The price tags are always being stuck onto things. They use those awful stickers that never seem to come off. That way the cost can't be adjusted. None of these things ... Read More
Birds in flight
So...yeah. I may or may not have a broom on my head in this picture. While simultaneously sharing some feelings. Let me explain! We had to remove the hoop to park our trailer this one time...due to the weight of the metal, the screws would NOT line up and it kept leaning down too far. Rather than A: get another ladder or B: just leave it off, I chose C: a creative alternative in which you prop it up with a random item. My arms got tired. So next best option? Practice balancing with a broom on my head. Obviously.... Why, then, am I also displaying my middle finger? One point could be made that I am pretty talented for being able to ... Read More
How to Deal with Rejection
Oh hey there. Me again. The one who said she would write for the sake of writing. Oops! So we never got formally introduced. I'm Heather. Sup! I am just your average girl, approaching the scandalous "menace to society" age of 25....THE HORROR!!! So anyways. Maybe now that someone knows my secret identity I can be a little more faithful in this writing stuff. Now that we have all the random details ironed out... This looks like an awesome announcement in which I tell you all that I just got accepted into the U's MBA program and I plan to run for president in the next election, also I probably have my life together and know what I'm ... In Awe – The Quiet Service of Angels
Lately, I am completely in awe and filled with love for all of the good people that surround me. They work regular jobs, eat regular food, and have regular families. They appear to be just "average joes" by the standards of the world. Want to know a secret? They are anything BUT regular. How, then, do we recognize these individuals who are secretly going about DOING good and serving without the expectation of anything in return? Just take a minute and look upon their hearts. Do they have challenges like everyone else? Most likely. It seems to be a common factor that isn't preferential to race, religion, gender, or ... Read More
A New Dream – Redesigning the Life You Want
It is funny to me how much of an impact a single comment can have on your thoughts. What a perfect reminder to be aware of what words I speak to others in a simple interaction. It may stick with them for days, weeks, or even years. What is this conversation that grabbed my attention and made it impossible to think of anything else? And even made me consider changing my whole life plan and following a new dream? I went to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription on Monday. Here is the conversation that ensued between me and one of the pharmacy technicians: P: What are you doing these days? Are you still in school? Me: I am working ... Read More
