To Blog, or Not To Blog
That is the question….
If you are anything like me, you have thought about starting a blog for a long time. And yet here you are…still wondering if it is a good idea. I am so glad you found me! I started my first blog back in 2008 – but I locked it so it ended up being an online journal. FUN FACT: I suck at journaling, so I am pretty sure it is locked up somewhere in the deep, vast interweb with maybe 4 posts and no way to be useful to anyone else – including me.
When I finally got up the courage to start a real PUBLIC blog, I was silently panicking inside. You worry that you are wasting your time. That nobody will read any of it. That if someone does read your posts, they will think you are an absolute wacko! But I DID IT.
What I have discovered since that day almost 4 years ago??
1-Freedom. This has become my own little place on the internet. It is my home to sharing my thoughts, my opinions, and even some things I have learned. It is mine!
2-Courage. Because this is my place, I have the opportunity to share things. Some things are very personal. With personal stories and thoughts comes vulnerability. I am learning to be comfortable just being me.
3-Friendship. It is fascinating to me that this has been an outcome of my blog. But writing such vulnerable thoughts online has actually opened up windows of communication and friendship between people in other places throughout the world, as well as by connecting me with people I have known for a long time. Emotions open up the world and allow you to find similarities with people everywhere.
4-Challenges. Yes. We all have them. And yet, when you are writing, your mind starts to look at the trials and obstacles you have as a possible lesson to learn from. If you can somehow learn from a challenge, maybe you can share something useful with someone else. Challenges are universal. Getting through them together can make it easier on all of us.
5-Love. Something that I have struggled with most of my life. I think that because of the ways the world presents perfection, I have never really been able to find peace with myself. This blog has allowed me to not only see others with new eyes, it has also allowed me to slowly learn to find pieces of myself that I can love. I might not have it down just yet, but I am gaining self-awareness and finding ways to be kind to my inner being as well as a little less harsh towards my body and life.
Thinking about starting a blog? What are you waiting for??
Go out there and discover. Share. Create. Be you.
